The grinding wheel is the focus of the safety protection of the grinding machine. However, it is still impossible to prevent the accident of the grinding wheel only by the strength of the grinding wheel itself and the certain protective effect of the grinding wheel chuck. The wheel must also be equipped with a wheel guard to use. The function of the wheel guard is to isolate the staff from the moving wheel without affecting the processing operation, and to effectively cover the wheel fragments when the wheel is broken, to ensure the safety of the staff. In normal grinding, the shield can also limit the diffusion range of wear debris and dust to a certain extent, blocking the grinding spark or the grinding fluid splash. The wheel guard is generally composed of a circumferential member and two side members, and covers the entire grinding wheel device including the grinding wheel, the grinding wheel chuck, and the end of the grinding wheel spindle. The protective cover has a certain shape of the opening, the opening position and the opening angle setting should meet the needs of different grinding processes under the condition of fully considering the safety of the operator. The protective cover should meet the following safety technical requirements.
(1) Material and wall thickness (a brief introduction to the manufacturing process of abrasive belt grinding)
The protective cover must have sufficient strength to resist the impact of the grinding wheel fragments, and the tensile strength of the materials used must not be lower than 415 MPa. The protective cover material is preferably a rolled steel plate. The wall thickness of the steel plate is generally greater than the thickness of the side member; the opposite ink thickness of the malleable cast iron is twice that of the rolled steel plate: the corresponding wall thickness of the gray cast iron is 4 times that of the rolled steel plate. The inner wall of the high-speed wheel guard should be equipped with a layer of energy-absorbing cushioning material (such as polyurethane, rubber, etc.). To reduce the impact of the wheel debris on the casing.
(2) Maximum safety opening size limit
The limit of the maximum safe opening size is divided into two requirements: the total opening degree and the partial opening degree above the center horizontal line. The smaller the total opening degree, the smaller the impact field when the grinding wheel is broken; the smaller the opening degree on the horizontal line, the smaller the probability of injury to important parts of the human body (such as the head and chest), and the safer the safety performance of the protective cover. The maximum total opening of the wheel guard for bench and floor grinders shall not exceed 90o, and the upper part of the main centerline of the grinding wheel shall not exceed 65o.
3. Safety clearance between the shield and the grinding wheel
The spacing between the grinding wheel and the protective cover is to ensure that no part of the protective cover is in contact with the moving parts of the grinding wheel device, and the gap between the opening edge of the protective cover and the outer side of the grinding wheel chuck should be less than 15 mm. The gap between the shield of the manual grinding grinder and the workpiece carrier and the grinding wheel should be adjustable. The protection right and the circumferential surface clearance of the grinding wheel should be less than 6mm. The bracket table is at the same height as the center line of the grinding wheel spindle, and the gap between the bracket and the circumferential surface of the grinding wheel should be less than 3 mm.
